Sewer and waste run downhill.  Trash is littered along the narrow walking paths.  Living conditions are cramped, with millions living in tiny one-room dwellings.  Death and disease are obvious everywhere we turn.  Hope is a word seldom whispered. 

In the slum area known as Mathare, people begin at the bottom of the hill where all the waste collects.  They moved here from the rural areas, looking for opportunity.  Little did they know the struggles would be greater, their hopes dashed upon the harsh realities of big city life. 

INTERCEDE is providing hope to the people in Mathare.  Through community-based education efforts and sponsorships for further education, we can make a difference.
