Below is a list of some immediate, specific needs.
Famine!
According to the Daily Nation, the government of Kenya is struggling to deal with an estimated 10 million famine stricken families. Some of the worst hit areas are on the coast and include families in Malindi and Kilifi Districts. Duncan Ziro is coordinating efforts in both districts and his hope and prayer is that he can reach as many families as possible. INTERCEDE's long range goal is to overcome this type of disaster. By educating and equipping Kenyans, we can help them to feed themselves for a lifetime rather merely help them when things are at an extreme like this. "Give a man a fish and you will feed him for a day; teach him how to fish and you will feed him for a lifetime." Please donate to relieve the current suffering, then consider donating regularly to solve the problem. Immediate need: donations to buy maize and beans for suffering families and seed so that they may plant crops during the next rain. |
Duncan Wanje Ziro |
Meet Duncan. He is a good friend and has proven himself to be committed, faithful, and trustworthy. In 2002, this goat herder in the dusty rural bush of Kenya received a rare invitation to attend one of the country's few universities. When Duncan received his letter, there was much rejoicing in the village. No one in the family or the surrounding community had ever had such an opportunity. But the costs of a college education soon dampened the mood. While Duncan was fortunate to receive such an invitation, the prospect was completely out of reach for a young man who comes from an area where many are forced to survive on less than a dollar a day. |
Through INTERCEDE, Duncan was able to achieve his wildest dreams and receive a BA in Bible and Community Development. Today, Duncan works as INTERCEDE’s Field Administrator providing grass-roots education in his home area. Immediate need: $6,600 for the whole of 2009. |

Fredrick Charo Kaingu |
Fredrick serves as the INTERCEDE Field Coordinator in Kaloleni, Kenya. He works to oversee the various programs and projects connected with the MCRC office in the Kaloleni area, meeting with various community and church leaders to organize outreach and growth projects. He has regular classes targeting the youth in the area who, without his encouragement and training, have little hope for a successful future. Fredrick was also one of the first to receive assistance from INTERCEDE and graduated with a diploma from Nairobi Great Commission School in 2000. |
Immediate need: $6,600 for the whole of 2009. |

John Kahindi Chengo |
A note from John: My name is John Kahindi Chengo. I am a Giryama in tribe and I live on the coast of Kenya. I was born in 1980 at Malindi District Hospital. I am the first born of five, with two brothers and two sisters. I went through 8 years in primary school in my home village of Msabaha and attended secondary school from 1996 to 1999. |
We would like to raise the money needed to help John get his degree. What a blessing he could be to the ministry on the coast! Imagine, a Giryama Christian doctor serving with us fulltime, among the poorest of the poor in East Africa! He would be the first doctor, and a Christian at that, willing to give his time in service to God’s people on the coast of Kenya! His father has agreed to pay for all other expenses, so this is a partnership; we’re not footing the whole bill. Immediate need: $3,500 for John's second year at college. ($3,500 has been raised for his first year.) I would like more information please |

Below is a list of some of the ongoing and long-term needs.
Christian Training ProgramThis program is the centerpiece of all our programs. We are a discipling organization that believes firmly in the overall development and wellbeing of the whole person. Discipling encompasses three components:
We believe in reaching out to a lost world, sharing the good news of Jesus with others. We encourage those who partner with us to share their faith boldly and with conviction. (This is the "evangelism" component.) But sharing the love of Jesus is not enough. We are interested in training and growing the young Christian in their new relationship with Jesus. (This is the "education" component.) During this education stage, the young Christian may attend Bible school or university for further training. But in addition to this, an internship is expected after the formal education is completed. It is during the internship that the person walks with mature Christian leaders, allowing them to exercise their classroom knowledge in real-life situations. They will experience first-hand the challenges of grass-roots education and evangelizing the lost. And lastly, we believe that after the person is taught and trained, they need to be encouraged and given the tools necessary to then share their faith with others in the same way it was shared with them. (This is the "empowerment" component.) As Christians, we are committed to making the world we live in a better place. Immediate need: $41,360 ($10,500 has already been raised.) Resource Center (MCRC) Continued Expansion and Community Programs
In addition to this, the Kilifi branch of MCRC has been renting a small space for years and is in desperate need of more room. There is need to purchase and build a similar, simple structure for the continued outreach and development of the people in the Kilifi area. A report published on November 1, 2005, in two of the Kenyan national papers, The Daily Nation and The Standard, stated clearly that the poorest constituencies in Kenya are located in Kilifi District where INTERCEDE has focused most of its efforts the last several years. The United Nations report State of the World Population 2005 had this to say concerning education and the young person: In Kilifi District alone, the literacy rate is only 45%. We need to educate the next generation and encourage spiritual, economic, and community growth and development. INTERCEDE is taking a holistic approach to development of the whole person, and we believe a crucial step in this is simply teaching people to read.
Immediate need: $90,000 for construction of facilities in Kilifi, youth programs, adult literacy program, women and family education, and farming and livestock education in both Kilifi and Kaloleni. |
